Run It Once is an online poker site founded by professional poker player Phil Galfond. The platform launched its real-money poker client in February 2019. Galfond stated his intent to build a site with “a level playing field” that was fair to all players.

Run It Once offered several features designed to enhance the player experience, including SnapCam, a video streaming feature for table talk, and SNG Select, a tournament format designed to eliminate heads-up play. The site also provided a built-in GTO (Game Theory Optimal) training tool.

The platform was licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission. Run It Once ceased its poker operations on January 3, 2022, to focus on the U.S. market, but did not ultimately relaunch in the U.S. as a poker site. It currently operates its online coaching platform.

Run It Once: Do you like poker? Here is where you can hone your skills

    Operator: Run It Once
    Product used: Online poker
How long I used it: 11 days

Founded in 2012 by American poker pro Phil Galfond as a place for teaching and learning poker. Years later, it has grown, developing a daily fantasy sports site, a poker site, and a training tool for players called Vision. The platform is revered for its pro-player integrity and transparent, player-first mechanics.

    Coaching & training poker:
Originally started as a premier online training site, Run It Once provides some of the best coaching resources, instructional courses, and solvers on the market to help players master Texas Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha.
They upload new instructional videos every day, so they have an extensive library accumulating thousands of them.

    Signing up:
You can create your account quickly using your email, Google, or FB account. Onboarding is straightforward on Windows and Mac.

    PVP integrity & verification:
The platform prohibits third-party HUD tools and seating scripts to protect casual players.

    Plans & pricing:
They offer three types of membership plans: Basic (free), Essential, and Elite. The Elite plan is their top option and provides premium tools to develop your poker skills.

    “Vision”:
They provide a learning tool called “Vision” that allows players to study and train in the game of Pot-Limit Omaha.

    One Lesson at a Time

Run It Once started working better for me when I stopped jumping from one poker topic to another. At first, I wanted to improve everything at once, and I ended up watching plenty of strategy content without really fixing anything.

I changed that by focusing on one problem in my game at a time. If I was struggling with a certain type of decision, I’d stick with that topic until I actually understood what I was doing wrong.

One thing I started doing was pausing before the explanation and making my own decision first. That made a huge difference. Whenever my choice was different, I had a clear reason to pay attention instead of just watching someone else play poker.

I also liked being able to practise similar situations repeatedly. It helped me realise that knowing something in theory and actually choosing it when the decision was in front of me were two very different things.

The biggest challenge was not getting distracted by all the available material. It was tempting to start another topic whenever something looked interesting, but I got much more value when I stayed focused on the weakness I was already working on.

I also had to keep my expectations realistic. Paying for poker training wasn’t suddenly going to make me a better player. I still needed to take what I learned and actually apply it during my own sessions.

There wasn’t a normal withdrawal experience for me here either. I wasn’t depositing a bankroll, playing for winnings or building a cash balance inside Run It Once, so there was nothing for me to cash out like I would on a poker room.

Interesting ideas, but not much use now

Run It Once is a strange one because I actually like a lot of the ideas behind it, but as a poker platform today it is difficult for me to rate it highly.

The site originally seemed much more focused on poker players than on simply filling the screen with casino promotions. Features like the training tools and some of the unusual poker formats were genuinely interesting, and I liked the fact that it seemed built around people who actually understand the game.

The obvious problem is that the real-money poker operation shut down. That changes the whole experience for me because I would normally visit a poker platform to actually play, not just read strategy content or use coaching material.

The coaching side still has value, especially if you are serious about improving your game, but that is different from having an active poker room with tables and tournaments.

So I can appreciate what Run It Once tried to do, but I would only give it 3 stars as an iGaming platform now. If I wanted poker education, I might still look at it. If I wanted somewhere to actually play, I would go elsewhere.
