Sleeper is a United States-based daily fantasy sports (DFS) platform. The company was founded in 2014 by Nan Wang, Henry Shu, and Weixin Li, and initially focused on fantasy football. The platform now offers fantasy contests for major leagues including the NFL, NBA, and MLB, as well as esports.
The platform is known for its social features, which include chat channels, direct messaging, and voice channels for league members. Sleeper offers a variety of contest formats, including season-long drafts, tournaments, and “Pick’em” games.
As of 2024, Sleeper’s paid-entry contests are legally available in a number of U.S. states. The platform’s free-to-play offerings are more widely accessible.
When I first tried Sleeper Picks, I kept choosing Max because the bigger potential return looked more appealing. It only took a few entries for me to realise how annoying it was when nearly everything landed and one bad player pick ruined the whole thing.
That’s when I started using Flex more often. I was giving up some of the upside, but I liked knowing that one mistake didn’t necessarily make my entire entry worthless. It made following the games a lot less frustrating.
I also stopped filling entries just for the sake of increasing the multiplier. If I only liked three projections, I’d stick with three. Forcing myself to find another player usually meant adding something I wasn’t nearly as confident about.
Live picks were useful for the same reason. Sometimes I wanted to see how a player or game looked before making a decision. Waiting for the action to start gave me another way to play instead of trying to figure everything out beforehand.
I was a little more organised once real money was involved. I got my account verification out of the way early and checked the conditions attached to my deposit method. I didn’t want to discover a hold or other requirement only when I was ready to withdraw.
With withdrawals, I gave the process some time instead of expecting the money to show up straight away. Processing and account checks can affect the wait, so I found it easier to request the payout and let it run through normally.

Sleeper probably understands better than most fantasy apps that half the fun is talking nonsense with the people in your league.
The chat feature is what stands out to me. Trades, lineup decisions and somebody making a terrible waiver pickup are much more entertaining when everyone can react in the same place instead of having a separate group chat somewhere else.
That gives Sleeper a different feel from some older fantasy platforms. It feels more like a fantasy league with a social app built around it rather than just a page where you set a lineup once a week.
The interface takes a little getting used to because there is quite a lot happening, but once you know where your league and players are, it becomes pretty comfortable.
For a league with friends, I would choose Sleeper over something very basic. The social side actually adds something to the experience instead of feeling like an unnecessary extra.
Would I use it again? Definitely. For me, fantasy football gets boring pretty quickly without league interaction, and Sleeper does that part particularly well.
